Kirsten Zellers Collaboration

Kirsten Zellers Elevates Our #hairgoals

When we stumbled across Kirsten Zellers profile on Instagram we were blown away with her stylings and creativity. She has very graciously accepted our invitations to send her products over the years, and now fast forward a few years later and we count ourselves incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with her on a scrunchie and hair scarf collection inspired by her.

Her beauty and passion for hair is very evident in her blog and social channels, but what we discovered in getting to know Kirsten a little more is the inner beauty this style guru possesses. She’s the type of person that speaks more through action than words, especially when it comes to anything highlighting herself. It took some direct questions to pull some personal info out of her, and anytime we gave her the opportunity to expand on or highlight personal achievements, she took that opportunity to highlight the efforts of others. She’s such a gem!

For more from Kirsten, here’s a portion of our Q & A with this braid queen, along with some fantastic tutorial videos. (scroll down)

Q & A with Kirsten Zellers

Q. How long have you been growing your blog and social following?

      A. I started my blog in 2015 as a way to share my looks and tutorials.

Q. Who is someone you admire, and why?

    A. While we're on the subject of hair, I would have to say I really admire my hairstylist and friend, Chrissy (@hairby_chrissy on insta). We started following each other right when I started blogging and I was always so in love with her work. A year and a half ago I flew down to get my hair done by her and was blown away - she is the owner of a super successful salon, has so many stylists that work for her, is a mother of four, and on top of everything is one of the sweetest, most genuine people I've met. I aspire to have her level of work ethic and kindness - I just might need five cups of coffee to keep up :)

Q. Where did the passion for creating hair and beauty inspiration come from?

    A. When I was a kid I begged my mom to let me grow my hair out and I actually had super long hair - like past my butt long. It was very thick and took a ton of upkeep, but my mom would sit with me for hours brushing it and braiding it. I am also the youngest of three girls, so I was always trying to copycat my older sisters' hairstyles.

Q. What would you say gives you the greatest sense of satisfaction or achievement?

     A. It makes me really happy when I get messages from people saying that reading what I have to say and seeing my content makes them embrace themselves and their originality. It's really easy to forget your purpose when on social media, but this is always a good reminder of what is important.

Q. Flashback to when you were 10 years old. What do you want to be when you grow up?

    A. When I was younger, I really wanted to be a magazine editor (hello 13 going on 30!). I always loved being creative and coming up with article concepts, planning photoshoots, making collages of hypothetical magazine layouts. And I'm kinda lucky that that's what I get to do - but for my own little blog!

Q. What are you happiest doing when you’re not working?

     A. Just hanging with my boyfriend and dog. It doesn't matter what we're doing, they make me feel full and happy.

Q. What are some causes you care about?

     A. I've recently been doing research on climate change and ways of creating a more sustainable life. I'm no where near perfect with this, but just doing a few small changes has reduced my carbon footprint. It can feel overwhelming when there is no immediate plan of action but just being aware of it and making changes in the right direction is a huge step.

Q. In general terms, how would you describe the hair accessories you enjoy using and recommending most?

     A. I obviously love all hair accessories - they are so fun and can totally elevate a style - but the ones I am always drawn to most are the effortless ones. Part of the reason why I am so in love with Chelsea King scrunchies is because I genuinely use them every day. I wear them around the house on their own because they are really gentle on your hair, but when I do a more put-together style I find that it is really easy to incorporate a scrunchie into it and make it a bit more stylish.
